Closet Clean Out Tips – Nashville Stylist Katey Preston
One way to make it less daunting is to toss out as you go. If you are getting dressed in the morning, and you try on a top that you no longer like the way it fits or you wonder if it’s out of style, start a pile right then and there. If you pull on a pair of pants with a button missing, don’t hang them back up. Put those in a different pile to take to the cleaners to have them fixed the next time you go. A lot of people, myself included, think it’s just easier to hang it back up and get to it later. Getting to it later rarely happens!
I’ve had clients tell me they appreciate an objective eye. A non-biased one that doesn’t know you are hanging on to that jacket because it once belonged to your mother or that sweater that your husband gave you that you don’t really like. We don’t know the history (although we will gladly listen to it), so we take out that level of attachment. As stylist, we are also experts at noticing wear and tear that you overlook because it’s your go-to staple. If one of your favorite go-to items needs to go, we will put it on a “to replace” list and help you find the perfect replacement!
