It’s almost New Year’s Eve, and we want to look special. But after the hubbub of the holidays, shopping for ourselves right now sounds a bit exhausting. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could build a festive NYE outfit around a wardrobe basic we already have?
We totally can! It’s all about balance. Pairing a wardrobe basic with embellished items, such as sparkles, metallics, and textured fabrics, adds a touch of luxury fit for ringing in the hope of a new year. See below how we curated a few NYE looks based on five essentials we all have in our closets.
And happy New Year from the Effortless Style team!
THE WHITE BUTTON-UP
A simple white button-up dresses up surprisingly well, and the top two buttons undone creates a v-neck made for a statement necklace. An above-the-knee faux leather skirt adds just the right amount of edge to an office basic.
THE BLACK PENCIL SKIRT
Ahhhhh the black pencil skirt…the classic go-to for a flattering silhouette. The high waist and knee length fit well on almost any body type. For NYE, elevate this skirt with some SHINE! A sequined camisole adds a feminine pop but also tucks in cleanly, and minimalistic metallic heel will make your legs look even longer.
THE SKINNY JEAN
We’ve all got a pair of skinny jeans, right?! Black looks good with everything, but you can’t beat a traditional deep blue denim. A loose, longer top, such as a poncho or cape, helps to cover any insecurities we have with skinny-cut bottoms but still shows off some of our best curves. A patterned clutch against solid tones is visually interesting without being too busy.
THE WOOL BLAZER
A business casual staple like a wool blazer often gets pushed to the back of the closet when it comes to a night out. But we think you should give it a chance! Building a monochromatic base layer in a tone that complements the blazer is very elegant. We’ve pulled a satin blouse and sequined flare pants both in champagne to wear under a toffee-colored blazer, creating a beautiful medley of textures.
THE BALLET FLAT
Oh yes, you can wear flats on NYE! The furry pom on these ballet flats have so much personality, and worn with a LBD makes your look comfy but foxy. A classic velvet dress and sparkly tights will keep you warm in these freezing temperatures without compromising style.
