Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday! I don’t know about you guys, but it feels so great to get back in the swing of things. I’m so excited to share some new blog posts with you over the next couple of weeks. I recently wrote an article for Nashville’s Agaisnt the Twang magazine titled “New Year…New You…New Closet.” If you would like to read, click here.
I am going to expand on that article over the next few weeks and share some other great tips to help get you going on cleaning out your closets. With the New Year, most all of us make New Year’s resolutions, and we all work hard in January to keep those resolutions. In January and February, I tend to do a lot of Closet Audits with clients. They like to start fresh in the New Year, and what better time to get your closet cleaned out, organized and ready to go.
In the article I wrote recently, I went through some steps to get you started and ready to go for the clean out task. However, not everyone is ready to tackle that clean out task just yet, and if that is you, that’s ok. One tip that I love to share with my clients is something easy that you can all do to help you prepare to clean out your closet three or six months down the road.
Stylist Tip: The Hanger Trick
Go through your closet and turn all of your hangers around backwards (See photo below). I know this seems a little awkward, but I promise, there is more to this trick. When you wear an item of clothing and get ready to hang it back up, hang it up on the hanger and place it back in your closet with the hanger now facing the right way. Do this for at least three months with everything you wear. Then at the end of the three month period, go through your closet and get rid of all of the items that are still hung up backwards. If you haven’t worn an item in three months, you probably aren’t going to wear it period.
This is a really eye opening trick!
Stay tuned for more closet tips next week. Hope you all have a great weekend!
Don’t forget….if you aren’t up to tackling your closet on your own, that’s what I am here for. Just give me a call or send me an email, and we will get your Closet Audit scheduled.
Great tip that I might actually follow through on because my closet is do for a complete over-haul.
