Ok guys. Let’s talk a little bit about shoes. On a positive note, you don’t need a closet full like some of us ladies. A few good quality pairs of shoes should last you years. Yes, I said years!
In the below post, we’ve put together a few suggestions of shoes that you should definitely have in your closet, and we’ve also shared a few tips to keep in mind when looking for new shoes and/or taking care of and storing your shoes.
1. Every guy should have a pair of black lace-up shoes.
The black lace-up should be a staple in your closet. It’s a shoe that you can both dress up and dress down. It will work with suits and denim and everything in between.
2. Stay away from square-toe shoes.
Square-toe shoes are out. Keep your shoes streamlined like the rest of your wardrobe. A slim (not too skinny) contour and rounded toe will be perfectly stylish and masculine.
3. Invest in a nice dress boot.
Yes, you can wear dress boots with suits as long as it’s the right suit. Stick with a more slim-fitted suit in a heavier winter fabric, and look for a boot that is similar to the below.
4. Your shoes should match your accessories.
A lot of men think that if they are wearing dress shoes, they have to be black. Not true. Brown dress shoes are absolutely accessible as well. The key with brown is to make sure that your brown dress shoes match the leather of your belt and the leather of your watch strap.

5. A black loafer can be the perfect in-between shoe.
The black penny loafer makes us all think of our grandpa, right? Fortunately, in recent years, designers have really streamlined the look of the penny loafer, and it’s one of those shoes that can step in and be what you need it to be. Pair it with a suit, and it’s the perfect formal shoe. Pair it with denim and a pullover, and it’s the perfect casual shoe.
6. Don’t overthink your socks.
Socks are a fun way to express how you are feeling each day. If you are into going bold, the only thing we would say is to look for stripes or colors that complement either your tie or shirt. If you prefer to keep it safe, the basic rule is to wear socks that coordinate with your suit or pants, so if you are wearing a navy suit with black shoes, you will want to wear navy socks.

7. Take care of your shoes.
Polish them. Store them with cedar shoe tree inserts.

I am wanting to get my husband a pair of shoes for Christmas because his are all old and worn out. He does not have a pair of black lace-up shoes, and I agree that he should. I like the lace-up kind and think it would look better than his slip on ones. I think I will try and get him something like that. Thanks for the idea!
