How to Wear: The T-Shirt Dress, Three Ways
We’re trying something new, guys! We’re going to be adding a new series into our monthly rotation of blog posts. These posts will focus on a single item, usually a wardrobe staple. And we will share how to wear it three different ways: casual, dressy, and somewhere in between. This variety of options will hopefully provide something for everyone, but also be specific enough that you can take our suggestions and appropriate them for your individual lifestyle.
We’re starting off with the t-shirt dress. It’s perfect for spring, and just like a regular t-shirt, can be styled differently, depending on accessories and complementary pieces. We’ve chosen the Cherry T-Shirt Dress in Light Denim Melange by Theory for this post. Its heather pattern appears as more of an earthy oatmeal from a distance. Any neutral tone though–white, black, khaki, etc.–is a great choice for versatility. This particular piece has all the elements of a classic t-shirt dress. It has a banded round neck, short sleeves, made of lightweight cotton, and is a pullover style.
SATURDAY NIGHT: The T-Shirt Dress
For Saturday night, we’re adding cool hardware to the t-shirt dress. The Moto Jacket in Peach by Anthropologie is made of a light cotton blend, as opposed to the traditional leather, which is more comfortable as it warms up outside. The asymmetrical front zip and brass cuff snaps are an edgy balance to an otherwise soft palette. A wedge, such as the Berit in Light Pink by Korkease, gives you height for a night out without the achy arches, and the Oval Mini Crossbody Bag in Ecru by Zara features interesting geometric shapes sure to draw lots of compliments.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON: The T-Shirt Dress
On a lackadaisical Sunday afternoon spent window shopping or wandering around the park, add an easy tie-front blouse, such as the Bow Cropped Top in Light Gray Linen by Hackwith, to your t-shirt dress for an extra layer in the cool breeze and stylish white Veja sneakers for walking. Grab this Soft Slouchy Tote Bag in Indigo by Urban Outfitters on your way out the door to hold the goodies you pick up at the farmer’s market.
MONDAY MORNING: The T-Shirt Dress
Monday morning for a lot of us leads back to the office. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t feel amazing in a t-shirt dress and some elevating accessories. Wear a long kimono-style jacket, such as the Clyde Trench in Ivory Midweight Linen by Elizabeth Suzann, with your t-shirt dress to give the appearance of added length for a more professional look. The kitten heels on these Patrizio Slingback Pumps in Blue Suede by Amalfi By Rangoni are just the right height for work, and the Shield Stone Collar in Lapis by Nakamol mimics the crew neck of the dress and is perfectly polished for that client meeting you’ve been prepping for.
