Katie Rushton
Owner & Stylist
Katie’s enthusiasm and passion for her work make even the most fashion-averse feel like they know exactly what to put on in the morning.
With a warm smile and an easy approach, she meets each individual where they are in life, listening to their needs so that she can capture their personal style and help them feel great in their clothes.
A love of style started young for Katie. Other interests won out as she pursued a career in finance, but like most callings, her desire to work in fashion and styling eventually became too loud to ignore.
After graduating from fashion and merchandising school, Katie was hooked. Whether it was studying emerging trends or learning the ins and outs of fabrics and how sewing techniques support a great fit, Katie left school ready to help clients look and feel their best. Her first stop? The working women she could relate to all too well from her days in an office environment.
Since founding Effortless Style, she’s seen it all! Whether working with a musician wanting to create a standout look or those ready to move their career forward in big ways, Katie has built a team ready to serve a variety of clients and needs.
An active member in entrepreneurial and philanthropic groups throughout Nashville, Katie knows and lives the same kinds of life demands as her clients. When she’s not working, you can find her serving in community organizations, including FemFessionals Nashville, the Middle Tennessee Golden Retriever Rescue, and the Nashville Women’s Breakfast Club, plus spending time with her growing family.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is a mix of two styles: bohemian and classic. Most days you will find me dressed in a pair of classic skinny or straight jeans. Jeans are a staple for me, but I love to pair them with fun tops and great jackets to dress them up a notch. Oh….and I love shoes! Shoes can make an outfit!
Who are your favorite designers?
I’m not a huge designer person, but I do love and appreciate the work of many designers. I love the work of Eileen Fisher and Stella McCarney and the mission behind both of their brands. I also love the work of designer, Karen Kane. She designs great knits each season, and I love that her line is all made here in the US. I love House of Harlow accessories, which is designed by Nicole Richie. I could probably go on and on!
What is the most rewarding part of your line of work?
Working with my clients! Nothing really compares to working one on one with a client and really feeling like you’ve helped them find a good fit or feel more comfortable in their clothes. I really and truly love building lasting relationships with my clients and making them feel like they can call me anytime they need something.
What’s the one item of clothing every woman should own?
Good denim! Being a denim girl, I’m an advocate for good denim. Even if you don’t wear denim often, I think it’s important to have one good pair of jeans. When I say good, I mean good quality and good fit! You may have to pay more for them up front, but good denim lasts longer and usually fits better as well!
Nashville Stylists
Katey Preston
When you spend over a decade of your career planning events—from intimate cocktail dinners, to board meetings, to 4,000-person conferences—you develop a discerning eye for how to pick the right outfit for the right occasion.
When you pair that with having shadowed your mother, a longtime stylist at Marshall Field’s in Chicago and top it off with a lifelong love of classic style—then you get Katey Preston.
Katey can distinguish the nuances of business attire vs. snappy casual vs. holiday cocktail, and yet somehow manage to keep your wardrobe full of core pieces that will withstand the test of time.
Katey is our go-to stylist for clients looking to feel good in their clothes, build a wardrobe of time-tested pieces, and create looks that will compliment their bodies. And for Katey, keeping it sustainable for clients is key. She has a not-so-secret love of hunting for deals (who can resist a great score!), and she enjoys shopping alongside her clients to teach them about what to go for when they are shopping for themselves.
Whether she’s transitioning a stay-at-home parent into a full-time career professional or getting a client ready to make a splash at a big event, Katey creates looks that are low-fuss and classic, with a signature edge that will make it your own.
How would you describe your personal style?
Classic. I love timeless pieces and the elegant lines of Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy. I love black and white and grey and cream and camel. I love accessories, oh how I love accessories! At the moment I’m on a big earring and stacked bangle sort of look, but I have quite the selection of statement necklaces and fun scarves as well. I love pieces that are to be remembered, and I love to look put together at all times.
Who are your favorite designers?
While I don’t necessarily seek out the labels, I tend to be drawn time and time again to Ralph Lauren and other classics like Eileen Fisher and Kate Spade. If I’m looking for something a little edgier to mix things up, then I run to Free People. Favorite stores are Madewell, JCrew and
local boutiques.
What is the most rewarding part of your line of work?
Without a doubt, it’s watching women who don’t typically take time for themselves transform into a pillar of confidence. Whether it’s a mom going back to work after having her first baby, a woman transitioning sizes or even a newly single woman looking for the perfect outfit for a first date, I love every challenge. My clients’ trust me and confide in me like they would a close friend, and there is something special about those relationships we build.
What’s the one item of clothing every woman should own?
I could say a great pair of denim here, but I think my answer really needs to be the perfect white blouse. I have several varieties, but my favorite look is to wear mine with the collar popped and the sleeves rolled and rock it with distressed jeans.
Jenny Grubb
When Jenny Grubb joined our team, her creative spark stood out immediately. Whether taking inspiration from her days as a young classically trained ballerina, her upbringing as a third-generation fashionista (her mom and grandmother’s style left an indelible mark), or her transition into motherhood that gave her a new appreciation for budding designers — Jenny is passionate about helping her clients use their style as a form of personal expression.
Jenny majored in merchandising, apparel, and textiles at the University of Kentucky and went on to do media sales, building relationships in the retail industry. Her education and experience provide a solid foundation that gives her fantastic range when working with our clients. She can help a client find staple pieces for a wardrobe while also helping another client who is looking for more adventure.
That’s because Jenny isn’t afraid to go out of her comfort zone and help her clients consider new looks, designers, and current trends they may not have otherwise discovered. Style to Jenny is like art; it is another way to help you be your best and most unique self.
Jenny is a fantastic addition to our team, and we’re excited about pairing her with clients who want a modern, feminine look to amp up their closet and accentuate their best assets.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is fun and colorful but yet very classic. I love to follow trends and find ways to incorporate those with a timeless look.
Who are your favorite designers?
I love Hunter bell and have followed her since the beginning of her career when she was on Fashion Star. I also love Rebecca Taylor and her feminine touches to her pieces. Many of my favorites are small designers in the South- Laroque, Brooke Wright, Elizabeth Wilson and Hello Dobson.
What is the most rewarding part of your line of work?
The most rewarding part is at the end of the day knowing the confidence you are instilling in your customer. Putting them in clothes that make them look and feel their best.
What’s the one item of clothing every woman should own?
I would have to say it is a tie between a little black dress and a great pair of denim. Good denim is truly life-changing in my book and a LBD is a must. One that you can dress up for a cocktail party or wear on a casual day with a pair of kicks.
