Here’s a simple rule I use with clients: shop for Here’s a simple rule I use with clients: shop for your real calendar first.

Before buying something, ask:

• Where will I realistically wear this?
• Can I think of at least 3 occasions for it?
• Do I already own shoes and accessories that work with it?
• Does it fit the way I live right now?

If you can’t answer those questions, put it back.

A beautiful piece that only works for a hypothetical life isn’t filling a wardrobe gap—it’s creating closet clutter.

Save this for the next time you’re tempted to shop for your fantasy life instead of your real one. 🤍

Yep. I said cheaper. 👀 Because the number on the Yep. I said cheaper. 👀

Because the number on the price tag doesn’t tell you what something will actually cost you.

Let’s say you buy a $300 jacket and wear it 100 times.

$3 per wear.

Now take that $40 top you bought because it was “such a good deal”—but you only wore it once before deciding you didn’t really love the fit.

$40 per wear.

Suddenly that $300 jacket doesn’t sound quite so expensive, does it?

This is cost per wear, and it’s one of my favorite ways to think about whether something is actually worth buying.

Before I invest in a piece, I want to know:
→ Will I wear it regularly?
→ Can I style it multiple ways?
→ Does it work with pieces I already own?
→ Is the quality good enough to hold up?
→ Will I still want to wear it a year from now?

Because as a personal stylist, I don’t think the goal is to spend MORE on clothes.

The goal is to spend BETTER.

We did a full deep dive on cost per wear—including how to calculate it and how we use it to make smarter shopping decisions—on the Effortless Style blog.

Comment COST below and I’ll send you the link to read it.
And save this for the next time you’re debating whether something is really worth the price tag. 🤍

A day in the life of a personal stylist 🧘‍♀️☕ Pila A day in the life of a personal stylist 🧘‍♀️☕ Pilates, eggs and avocado, Starbucks, and then straight to a client's closet with Dana.

Our client wasn't even home — her husband let us in and we got to work. That's just how it goes sometimes. 😄

Dana and I have started tag-teaming styling sessions together, and honestly it's a game changer. Two stylists in a closet means more creativity, better problem solving, and we just flat out get more done. By the time we left, we'd pulled 45 complete outfits using pieces she already owned — mixed and matched with shoes and accessories for fall and early winter.

And then I went home and uploaded every single look to her online closet so she can see exactly what to wear and how to wear it, right from her phone.

This is what a styling session actually looks like. 🤍
We see this every single day with our clients. You We see this every single day with our clients. Your body changed—whether it’s 10 pounds, hormones, aging, life—and suddenly your closet doesn’t feel like home anymore.

Nothing fits the way it used to. The jeans don’t sit right. You feel frumpy in clothes you once loved. Getting dressed stops being fun and starts being frustrating.

And here’s what we know as personal stylists who are also women over 40: you don’t have to keep dressing the body you used to have.

If your closet feels disconnected from the body you have today, here’s where we’d start:

1. Stop using fit as a judgment.
If something no longer fits comfortably, that’s information—not a reason to be hard on yourself.

2. Edit what isn’t serving you now.
Move out the pieces that don’t fit, don’t flatter or consistently make you feel bad when you put them on.

3. Pay attention to what DOES feel good.
Notice the silhouettes, rises, lengths and proportions you reach for now—not the ones you loved five or ten years ago.

4. Identify the actual gaps.
Before you start shopping, figure out what’s missing from the wardrobe you need for your life today.

5. Rebuild intentionally.
You don’t need an entirely new closet overnight. Start with a few pieces that fit beautifully, work together and make getting dressed easier.

Your closet should celebrate who you are in this season of your life—not constantly remind you of who you used to be.

We help our clients through this process all the time, and one of our favorite things to hear afterward is: “I forgot what it felt like to love getting dressed.”

You deserve that feeling back. ✨

Save this for the next time your closet feels like it belongs to a past version of you—and follow for more practical styling advice that meets you where you are.
Before you change the pants. Before you change th Before you change the pants.
Before you change the top.
Before you throw the whole outfit on the bed and declare that you have NOTHING TO WEAR…

Change. The. Shoe. 😂

I cannot tell you how many times we do this when styling an outfit and suddenly everything clicks.

Sometimes the outfit isn’t wrong.

The shoe is.

Consider this your friendly personal stylist check-in for the day. 🤍

A little weekend behind the scenes of a personal s A little weekend behind the scenes of a personal shopping day. ✨

This client is a CEO—but that doesn’t mean her wardrobe is all suits, heels and boardrooms.

Her workdays can take her from meetings to walking through warehouses, so our goal was to round out her wardrobe with pieces that felt polished and professional, but were also comfortable, practical and easy to move in.

And before she ever walked into the dressing room? Lots of sourcing, ordering pieces in, hauling garment bags through the mall 😅 and putting everything together into complete looks so she could see exactly how the pieces would work in her real life.

Because the best wardrobe isn’t built around a title or a dress code.

It’s built around the life you actually live. 🤍
