The Midi Dress

Midi dresses are very much back in session after what was possibly a two decade reprieve! There is little more feminine and pretty than a girl in a dress, and the midi dress provides countless options for styling. Wear it alone with heels, booties, sandals, sneakers, or wedges…. Layer a leather or denim jacket, a cardigan, or a chunky sweater over it…. Embellish it with simple accessories or go all out with statement earrings and a fedora. You get the drift – have fun with it and get creative!

The Midi Dress: How to Wear

Sneakers are one of our most favorite accessories right now – don’t be afraid to wear them with a midi dress. If you don’t own a pair of fashion sneakers, now is the time! One of our favorite brands is Dolce Vita. These are just two of probably 100 styles, color palettes, and patterns they have to choose from. This brand is tried and true by our stylists – comfortable and good looking!

Able makes a fabulous cropped denim jacket that is easy to throw on over most any look! The cropped length works well with a dress because it will accentuate the waist. This denim jacket was so popular that they released a white version a few weeks ago!

A sweater over a midi dress is so fun and fabulous – more on that below! If you are looking for a versatile sweater option for this purpose, check these two options out. (More on these here and here.) The most important thing to be aware of would be the length of the sweater. Idealistically, the sweater would be either cropped or folded under to sit close to the natural waist. If you have a longer sweater in your closet you want to use, don’t forget about the trick of tucking your sweater into the bottom of your bra to achieve the length you are wanting! An off-the-shoulder or slouchy look would be pretty too.

Katey Preston’s Looks

I was actually with Katey Preston when she bought this dress in Florida – if you haven’t had the chance to shop with Katey, you must! She just has an eye for stand out pieces, and this dress falls into that category for sure. She saw it from across the store in Anthropologie, and the rest is history! The geometric pattern is gorgeous, and the colors work throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall, making the dress worth the investment that it was. Katey pairs it with a neutral bootie, a dainty necklace, gold dangles, and a fabulous fedora.

This leopard print long sleeve midi is so beautiful. Of course, this dress can be worn in its own right with heels or booties. But we love Katey’s take on it here, with a chunky sweater layered over it! It repurposes the dress into the look of a skirt. Don’t be afraid to let the sleeves of your dress peek out from under the sweater!
