Q&A with our Nashville-Based Personal Stylist Emily Goodin
Q: Emily, when did you join Effortless Style and why?
E: I joined Effortless Style in 2016 because I wanted my focus to be on working with individual clients’ styling needs. After owning a boutique for almost 10 years before I moved to Nashville, I had become bogged down with the ins and outs of running a retail business and didn’t have the time that I wanted to focus on my clients. It has been wonderful to be able to concentrate on what I do best – styling and working with clients!
Q: It’s not only a new year, but a new decade. Talk about your short and long term goals as we enter 2020.
E: Oh wow – where do we start! I always tend to think big with my goals for the future. I have several personal goals that I’m excited about. One big goal I have for this year is to mountain bike 500 miles. Last year I logged 330 miles (with many miles ridden that were not recorded), so I feel like I might be able to do it this year! Another lofty goal of mine this year would be to finish the book I’m writing. As far as my clients go, I’d like to continue to style my individual clients because I absolutely love working with everyday people who want to look their best. However, I would also like to expand my commercial side of styling for branding and marketing shoots.
Q: When did you first become interested in fashion?
E: I’ve always been interested in fashion. My mother and grandmother taught me to sew as a young girl, however, I never had the full patience for it – ha! I remember designing my 8th grade dance dress for my mom to sew – a white, off the shoulder, textured fabric, dress with fringe trim. I never imagined I could have a career in fashion, but God had other plans and showed me the way!
Q: What is your favorite service that Effortless Style offers (and why)?
E: Personal shopping/styling. I like to help an individual hone in and develop their own, unique personal style.
Q: What is your most favorite thing about being a stylist?
E: I love showing people that their aspirational style can be their everyday style!
Q: Where do you most like to shop for yourself?
E: I like shopping individual, local designers to find unique pieces. I don’t hate a Nordstrom Rack run though!
Q: What is your most favorite occasion to dress for?
E: I’d say I love dressing for cocktail attire. It leaves it open for me to choose a dress or pant look.
Q: How would you characterize your style?
E: Classy with an edge. I like to wear a statement piece every day, whether that be a unique piece of jewelry or a bright yellow jacket… Something that catches the eye!
