Spring Colors…Living Coral

Spring Colors...Living Coral

Spring is well…still springing. As a result it looks as if we still have a little ways to go before all of the vibrant spring colors of the season are really popping. However, at Cheekwood Botannical Gardens today, the beautiful Tulips were already in full bloom. Because of that, we were able to snap this picture, which is such a great representation of this years color of the year…..Living Coral.

Since 2000, the Color Institute looks at trends across the course of daily life. Trend analysis was taken from the entertainment industry, the brightest artists, fashion designers, technology, color psychology and more. Subsequently this is how they formulate their decision on the annual hue (www.pantone.com).

Nature and the environment are taking center stage these days. In part, this is why the title Living Coral, was given to this years color. Living Coral was given its name due to it’s “animating and life-affirming” tone which “energizes and enlivens with a softer edge,” according to the PCI.

Perhaps it’s no coincidence that a color known for conjuring up thoughts of marine life and its fragile nature would be their choice (www.pantone.com). Coral can only thrive if all around it remains healthy as well.

It is exciting to me that many fashion brands are joining the environmental movement. If nature thrives we thrive and why not celebrate this with a color connected to luxury and wellness!

I am such a huge fan of this color. Just this week I saw many Instagram and Facebook pictures with sunrises and sunsets from friends on spring break living their best lives and that fills me with happiness! This beautiful color represents growth, nourishment and perseverance. It is bold and brave and the perfect color for the spring!

Spring Colors: Living Coral Looks

Wearing any derivative of coral by nature heightens the happy in your wardrobe. It can be worn so well and so easily. Blend it in to your work, casual, and every day looks. Both women and men.

When paired with navy, coral softens that heavier more masculine color. Worn with an army green or camouflage it elevates a muted more casual look. Throw a coral blazer on with some jeans and heels and you can go straight from conservative work to happy hour chic. Slip into a coral tunic to hit the local farmers market or use as a swimsuit coverup and pair with a cute hat and some sandals.

Spring Colors: Get Glammed Up

Wearing head to toe coral is bold no doubt.

With these pieces you can be the belle of the ball or the life of the party. Each of these dresses, at first glance, are fancier and would certainly turn an eye at a glam event. Worn with statement jewels and strappy or stiletto heels you will command the room.

However, if you feel like this is not a budget conscious decision because of it’s one wear possibility …stay with me. Each could be used again in a more casual context.

Pair them with a cropped denim jacket, light on the jewelry or no jewelry at all and then throw on a pair of flat thong sandals, wedges or even a fun sneaker.

To sum things up, every season it is good to go through and weed out the old and add a few new pieces to your closet. When doing so, I think you will find that adding just a few items in the living coral family will bring new life to your wardrobe, your mood and your wellbeing! Go live your life large and in coral!
